Building safer communities through awareness, education, and action.

Let’s Talk Not Hide is a community education and prevention initiative delivered by Afghan Women's Organization Refugee and Immigrant Services (AWO). We support newcomer, immigrant, refugee, and racialized communities with culturally responsive information, practical tools, and safe opportunities for conversation.
Through workshops, community outreach, awareness campaigns, healing circles, and partnerships, we help individuals and families recognize warning signs of abuse, build healthy relationships, respond safely, and connect with appropriate services.
Our Mission
To prevent gender-based violence by empowering individuals, families, and communities with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognize abuse, respond safely, support survivors, and promote healthy relationships.
Our Vision
Communities where everyone feels safe, respected, included, and supported—and where neighbours, friends, and family members confidently help prevent violence.
What We Do
We turn awareness into practical, community-led action.
Learn & Recognize
Workshops and multilingual education help community members recognize warning signs, understand healthy boundaries, and learn about gender-based violence.
Request translated information or interpretation. We offer language support in English, Dari, Pashto, Urdu, Arabic and Farsi (Persian), with an interpreter available to support participation. Tell us your preferred language when you contact us.
Connect & Support
Community conversations, healing circles, outreach, and partnerships reduce stigma and connect people with culturally appropriate support and services.
Speak Up & Act
Our bystander approach gives neighbours, friends, and family members practical ways to respond safely, offer support, and help build safer communities.
Our Values
These values guide every conversation, workshop, partnership, and community activity.
Neighbours, Friends and Families (NFF) Campaign
Our approach helps neighbours, friends, and family members recognize warning signs, respond without judgment, support someone’s safety, and connect them with appropriate help.
Everyone has a role to play in preventing gender-based violence.
